Toyota sold more than 10 million cars in a year for the first time in history
Kyiv • UNN
In fiscal 2023, Toyota achieved record global vehicle sales of 10.31 million units, surpassing the 10 million mark for the first time, thanks to increased sales abroad, particularly of hybrid models in North America and Europe.
Toyota Motor Corp reported that its global car sales for fiscal 2023 increased by 7.3% to a record 10.31 million units. This is the first time the number of sales has exceeded the 10 million mark in one fiscal year, Kyodo News reports, according to UNN.
Details
The record result was achieved thanks to a 7% increase in overseas sales to 8.78 million vehicles. Toyota actively increased sales of hybrid versions of popular models such as the Corolla and RAV4 in North America and Europe.
In the domestic Japanese market, sales increased by 8.7% to 1.53 million vehicles. However, the company noted that scandals in its subsidiaries had a negative impact on this figure in the second half of the year.
Overall, sales of the entire Toyota Group, including Daihatsu and Hino Motors, increased by 5% to a record 11.09 million vehicles last fiscal year.
At the same time, Toyota's global production in FY2023 increased by 9.2% to 9.97 million vehicles, but did not reach the target of 10.1 million due to recent scandals with data falsification in the group's companies.
In particular, Toyota's production increased by 5% to a record 6.66 million vehicles due to strong demand in North America and Europe. In Japan, the figure increased by 18.7% to 3.31 million vehicles after the COVID-19 pandemic.
