The reconstruction of the Kyiv metro tunnel between the Lybidska and Demiivska blue line stations is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko told reporters after the meeting of the provisional investigatory commission on the closed metro stations, UNN reports.
"We are constantly monitoring the situation. Yesterday I was at the site where the pit has been opened and work is underway. The contractor says that 40% of the work has already been completed. There are 60 employees working in three shifts around the clock at the site, many pieces of equipment, so the work is underway," Klitschko said.
He expressed hope that the tunnel itself would be opened in the near future, which would provide an additional opportunity to provide key answers to what happened and what caused the accident.
"Whether it is design errors, construction errors, or improper operation. That is, when we open the tunnel, we will be able to clearly answer whether there is waterproofing, chemical reinforcement, key things that were prescribed by the design of this building, and after that, conclusions will be drawn," Klitschko said.
According to him, there is communication with contractors.
"Representatives of the contractor say that if there are no problems, they plan to complete it (reconstruction of the Kyiv metro tunnel between the Lybidska and Demiivska blue line stations - ed.
During today's PIC meeting on the subway, MP Vitaliy Bezghin, head of the subcommittee on administrative and territorial structure in the Verkhovna Rada , raised a question about the timing of the opening of traffic between Demiivska and Lybidska stations.
Thus, when asked whether the metro stations would be open by the end of the summer, Ruslan Kandybor, Director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (KCSA), answered: "Yes".
In addition, Kandybor said that in two weeks it will be possible to see the upper part of the tunnel near the Demiivska metro station.
"Final conclusions about the causes of the threat of collapse, about everything that is happening outside, in particular the soil compaction at the point where the tunnel passes from hard rock to sandy soil to the base - all this can be done only when we open it. Within two weeks, the top of the tunnel will be visible, and experts will be able to work on whether the soil has been chemically reinforced, etc", - Kandybor said.
